    • Oink Oink - 2018 Dodge Demon vs. 2019 Challenger Hellcat Widebody curb weights

It is undeniable that the American market is delivering the most horsepower per dollars in the automotive world. The problem? It comes somewhat ironically with a typically American problem which is the cars carry a major weight penalty.

The Dodge Demon is obviously impressive and met its goal of world's quickest production car in the 1/4 mile.

Dodge strips some weight out but it still comes in at 4316 pounds:

That is with a full interior so there is still weight to be saved but no matter what you do there is no getting around the car being heavy.

The widebody Challenger Hellcat is even heavier at 4405 pounds:

It is still going to be quite a while until lightweight chassis technology is applied to performance cars at a reasonable price point. Making power is the easy part these days but we are seeing weights balloon.

Still not bad...by modern standards. C&D has the F90 M5 at 4370 lbs and that's supposed to be the "ultimate" driving machine.

Yeah, that is big 4 door luxury sedan with tons of features... not a 2 door purpose build drag car.

Let's not kid ourselves, a widebody Challenger Hellcat isn't really a purpose built drag car. It's a luxury barge with back seats the same size as most saloon cars.
